Our Mission
Is to promote multicultural dance, music, and the visual and
literary arts, through creation of new work, performance, and teaching.
Our Philosophy
The Artists of the SC McAC have in common a
strong interest in community development and a keen awareness of the
role of the arts in education.
At
the SC McAC, we measure success not only as the number of performances
our artists produce and how much money they earn. Success to our members
is not only winning dance competitions or performing at prestigious
places. Success is a child lured to the arts, instead of the streets.
Success is training a dancer who has studied for a long time and never
really "put it all together" and getting her to do what she never
thought was possible. Success is bringing students to a different,
deeper level of awareness; Audiences feeling not only entertained, but
enriched by a performance. Success is taking a company of diverse
people, with mixed levels of dance experience and each with his/her own
private life to tend to, and channelling their efforts and enthusiasm to
create with them authentic works of art, technically and artistically
excellent.
We strongly believe that the arts should be a part of everyday life,
as they are a vehicle of communication and community building, an
invaluable tool in education, and a means to promote wellness and
healing.
